Background:

Layana was born on Wingmaiden Island. Although the island had a strict no-male policy, her mother had come to the island when she was already with child. Layana was an early-born baby, and without the help of the healers, she would have died. When she turned 16, she was presented with her own baby Razorwhip to raise and care for. She named it Sheerwing for the metallic sheen that glanced off its wings when they were hit by sunlight. When Sheerwing was old enough to live on his own, however, he refused to leave, preferring to stay with Layana. She happily took care of him, enjoying his company over the other Wingmaidens'.

Layana developed the feeling that she wasn't meant to stay on Wingmaiden Island. Reasoning with the head of the tribe, she was allowed to find her calling elsewhere, and took Sheerwing with her. She quickly fashioned a saddle for him out of his shed scales, and set off to explore the world. Layana found island after island filled with wild dragons. Once, when she was travelling over the ocean, she came across a massive crater with the sea cascading into it. Curious, she dove down, and discovered an extensive network of underground caverns.

After exploring the caves for a while, she happened across a nest filled with translucent eggs. Their shells were so thin that the embryo was clearly visible inside. She noticed that one of the eggs had rolled out of the nest, onto the cold stone. As she bent to pick it up, she heard a piercing roar behind her and came face to face with a dragon that looked incredibly like a Night Fury, save for its light scales and fewer nubs. It was sheer purple, with sharp violet eyes. It stalked towards her, and she backed away, towards Sheerwing. She tried to tell the dragon that she was trying to return the egg, and to her amazement, the dragon's eyes widened and she lowered her wings from their defensive position. Its gaze softened, and it took a step back. Layana was terribly confused, but she bent towards the egg anyway, looking towards the supposed mother for a sign of aggression, but found none. She placed the egg back with its clutch with some difficulty; the egg was quite heavy.

Weeks passed and the dragon grew ever more curious about the strange creature that had helped her. She would come to the camp Layana had made in the networks, often watching her work and sometimes helping. Eventually, the dragon allowed Layana to touch her, and from there, their bond grew.

When the "Light Fury" showed her that the eggs had hatched, Layana was overjoyed. She cuddled the hatchlings, laughing when they nibbled at her hair or tugged at her clothes. The Light Fury watched her with a kind of motherly compassion. She had grown to care for the girl. Years passed, and the hatchlings grew strong and sturdy. When it came time for them to leave the nest, the Light Fury was comforted by Layana. Sheerwing had been jealous of the new companion at first, but now slept by her side.

Layana realized that she and her friends couldn't stay in the caverns forever. She convinced the Light Fury- whom she named Icefang- to leave with her, and in their travels, they happened across a large island filled with vikings and dragons. As they began to become more familiar with the island's ways, they decided to stay on the island until their hearts pulled them away. Layana then trained a Triple Stryke, and continues her dragon training to this day.
